Information about Services Provided by the Unit


The goal of the Pope County K-9 Unit is to provide a variety of professional K-9 search services to the communities of Pope County and surrounding areas.

Public Education & Demonstrations

The unit will provide educational programs and demonstrations of the K-9 Unit's services to community organizations and youth groups. The primary goal of these programs will be to provide information on the use of search and rescue canines and wilderness safety while hiking and camping.

Search and Rescue Services

The unit provides search and rescue services using specifically trained canines. At the present time the unit provides canines trained in scent discriminatory man-trailing. Future plans include the use of canines trained in land and water cadaver recovery and air-scent work. The unit will frequently be reviewing the needs of the communities it serves and will add other canine services as needed.

Referral Services

If a case requires services beyond the scope of the units training, a referral will be made to other search and rescue organizations trained to meet the specific needs of that case.
